  Un lavoro prodotto in maniera magnifica e suonato meglio, dotato di feeling e groove irreplicabili, privo di un calo che sia degno di questo nome e padrone di un ascoltatore divertito dal primo all’ultimo minuto.

  Uno degli album più belli, se non il più bello, dei Machine Head.

  Un pò troppo esasperato per gli amanti del thrash più convenzionale, forse più adatto a chi da sempre segue i Machine Head ed apprezza le loro soluzioni così varie e distanti le une dalle altre.

  Alla fine, come in fondo è sempre accaduto, Robb Flynn si dimostra un bel furbetto a pendere dove tira il vento.

  Con The Blackening, il combo californiano non sancisce un ritorno ruffiano verso le sonorità che li fecero grandi negli anni d’oro del post thrash, bensì un più coraggioso tentativo di rinnovarsi.

  chi come me sente sempre puzza di bruciato dietro scelte strategico-musicali del genere, non può che rimanere con qualche interrogativo e dubbio sulla sincerità della proposta musicale.

  “The Blackening” presenta otto tracce che sforano l`ora di durata totale, avvalendosi per allungare il minutaggio di lunghe fughe strumentali che mettono in evidenza evoluzioni chitarristiche al limite del virtuosismo.

  Il disco presenta anche tracce buone e momenti elettrizzanti, ciononostante il suo precedessore “Through The Ashes of Empire” aveva convinto molto di più e c’è da dire che tra “Master of Puppets” e “The Blackening” c’è di mezzo un mare.
