E’ lampante che ormai gli of Montreal non devono impare niente da nessuno. Sono una band esperta (attiva dal 1997), matura, vitale, e che all’ottavo album si dimostra ancora capace di stupire.

Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? porta finalmente a compimento il suono e le intuizioni di Of Montreal, un improbabile quanto geniale mix di Beach Boys, Talking Heads, XTC e Prince in chiave indie-rock.

Via, quindi, con un pop solitamente debitore a Beach Boys e XTC , mischiato da introspezione nei testi (cosa tuttavia poco importante per l’ascoltatore medio del periodo) ed attitudine dance nemmeno troppo nascosta.

Nonostante i temi ‘difficili’, l’energia e il ritmo travolgente della musica saranno sicuramente apprezzati da chi cerca qualcosa fuori dall’ordinario.

Trovato il cuneo nel quale infilarsi: una triangolazione sixties pop + synth pop + disco music -, gli Of Montreal continuano a ficcarci il nettare come api operaie alla ricerca del sacro graal della reinvenzione pop (postmodernamente parlando, s’intende). E a forza di scrivere e riscrivere, montare e rimontare il mosaico è bello al punto da far sparire la colla.

Ennesimo affascinante lavoro per i prolifici Of Montreal, che ci confezionano un altro buon indie-pop album d’autore.

Ma se voi, gentili lettori che leggono i titoli delle canzoni e sanno l’inglese, sentite di aver bisogno di un amante con soul power, allora soffocare in un lago di petali di ciliegio non sarà esperienza ugualmente intensa come l’ultimo Of Montreal.

Sono dodici pezzi di indie-pop tra i migliori che vi possa capitare di ascoltare di questi tempi. Un po’ burlesque, un po’ dark. A tratti rock, ad altri funky e sempre senza che mai il risultato appaia pasticciato o confuso.

Una forma di canzone caotica che rispecchia i tumulti interiori, un pop per nulla rassicurante e conciliante, basta guardare anche il minutaggio.

L’ultimo prodotto uscito dal paese delle meraviglie degli Of Montreal è un flusso instancabile di suoni e voci perforanti che isolano, circondano e stupiscono anche chi già da anni segue questo geniale gruppo Elephant 6.

Allora se fosse un Ep con 5 o 6 pezzi sarebbe da otto pieno.
Sfido chiunque a restare immobili all’ascolto di “Suffer of fashion” o “She ’s rejector” , o per chi ama alcune tipi di sonorità alla kraut/dance per intenderci rimanere indifferenti a ‘The Past is a grotesque animal’.

Non c’è da stupirsi se ‘Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?’ suoni decisamente più stravagante anche dei precedenti lavori di Of Montreal (una dozzina in dieci anni di attività).
